Fix your English in any app with one shortcut.
Select text in an email, chat, or document, press your keys, and RewriteKey replaces it with clear, correct English. Your meaning and your voice stay the same.
Free for Windows 10 and 11. Pro is a one-time $10.
Try a shortcut. In the app, you choose your own keys.
How it works
RewriteKey sits in your system tray, like a screenshot tool. You don't open it. You just use your shortcut.
-
1Select your text
In Gmail, Outlook, WhatsApp, Word, Slack, or almost any text box on Windows. Press Ctrl A to take everything.
-
2Press your shortcut
A small spinner shows next to your mouse while the text is fixed. It takes a second or two.
-
3Keep writing
The fixed text replaces your selection in the same place. No copying, no pasting, no switching tabs.
One word per shortcut
Add a row in Settings, type one word, and pick your keys. A tone like polite or professional changes how the text sounds. A language like Spanish or Hindi translates it.
Set it up once
RewriteKey uses Google Gemini to fix your text. You add your own free Gemini key one time, and then you don't think about it again.
How to get a free key- No account, no sign-upThere's nothing to log in to. Install it and add your key.
- Your key stays on your PCIt's stored encrypted on your computer and only sent to Google with your requests.
- Your text isn't storedThe text you select goes to Google Gemini for the rewrite. RewriteKey doesn't save it or send it anywhere else. Privacy policy
- Quiet until you need itNo ads, no pop-ups. It lives in the tray and can start with Windows.

How do I get a free Gemini API key?
- Go to aistudio.google.com/apikey and sign in with your Google account.
- Click Create API key and copy it.
- Right-click the RewriteKey icon in your tray and open Settings.
- Paste the key, click Test key, then Save.
Keep your key private. If you ever share it by mistake, delete it in Google AI Studio and create a new one.
Do I have to pay for Gemini?
No. Google's free tier is enough for most everyday use. On the free tier, Google may use the text it receives to improve its products, so avoid rewriting very sensitive information.
How do I change my shortcuts?
Open Settings from the tray icon. Each row has a word and its keys. Click the last box in a row and press a key to change it. Use Add hotkey for a new row. If a shortcut is already used by Windows or another app, RewriteKey tells you, so you can pick another.
How do I translate text?
Add a row with a language name, like Spanish, Hindi, or French, and give it keys. Select text and press those keys to translate it in place.
Which apps does it work in?
Almost anywhere you can select and paste text: browsers, email, chat apps, Word, and more. Apps that run as administrator can block it. If nothing happens, try the same text in a normal app.
I bought Pro. How do I activate it?
Find the license key in your purchase email. In RewriteKey, open Settings, paste it under Pro license, and click Activate. One key works on up to 3 PCs, and Pro keeps working offline.
Nothing happens when I press my shortcut
- Check that some text is selected.
- Check that RewriteKey is in the tray and not paused.
- Open Settings and click Test key to make sure your Gemini key works.
- Check your internet connection. Without it, your text stays as it was.
